Bollywood’s “Dabangg” actor Salman Khan will be seen doing a daredevil stunt in PepsiCo’s new Mountain Dew ad – he jumps from 10, 000 feet in a “wingsuit” from which a parachute springs open.

“Everyone is afraid of something or the other at some point of his or her life. But if you try to run away from fear, you’d be tired and eventually fear will win. So the best way to overcome fear is to face it, run through it because ‘Darr Ke Aage Jeet Hai’, ” Salman said in a statement.

Salman was initially not so sure about the stunt but he eventually did it. Wingsuit flying is a new sport of flying through the air in a special jumpsuit and pulling the parachute’s ripcord as one apporaches the ground.

He is said to be the first celebrity brand ambassador roped in by Mountain Dew.

Alpana Titus, category marketing director (flavoured carbonated drinks), PepsiCo India Beverages, says the new campaign is quite big in terms of quality and budget.

“Salman has jumped from a mountain which was 10, 000 feet high. He did have jitters initially but was confident it would work out well and he would be able to overcome his fears in turn, ” she said.

When asked why Salman was chosen out of all the known faces, Titus said: “Salman was our first choice because he embodies our (Mountain Dew’s) tagline ‘Darr Ke Aage Jeet Hai’ accurately and he also has a nationwide fan following. People in not only the metros but also the remote areas follow him.”

The 45-second TV commercial will air from Friday and a 60-second commercial will be shown in theatres.

Ameesha Patel attends fundraiser organised by the wife of India’s Vice President

Ameesha Patel was in Delhi as guest of honour for the fundraiser for the Vice President of India Shri M Hamid Ansari’s wife Mrs Salma Ansari.

The event was for the L’noor Foundation based in Aligarh which is a NGO founded by Mrs Ansari for below poverty line (BPL) children.

When she started out, 200 children were registered with the NGO whereas now more than 2000 are. Everything from their school fees to food, is taken care of.

Huge task

The actress says, “Mrs Ansari is an alumnus of Aligarh University. Once when went horse riding a few years ago in the interiors of Aligarh, she devastated by the poverty she saw there.

It’s been a huge task for her to raise funds for their upliftment so when she asked me I had to go. I advocate education. The proceeds of the event went to her foundation.”

Ameesha adds that Mrs Ansari paid her several compliments. “She’s a very warm and lovely lady and told me that she’s a great fan of mine. She said she found me educated and intelligent and loved the kind of roles I do.

I have promised to help her with her work. I love to do something for the underprivileged and recently went for the Sunday marathon award for the Aseema Foundation in Juhu.”

Akshay Kumar replaces Priyanka Chopra as reality show host, puts rival Ajay Devgn out of competition

It can be revealed now. Akshay Kumar returns as host of the next season of reality TV show Khatron Ke Khiladi, replacing Priyanka Chopra and pipping the other contender, Ajay Devgn to the post.

Khiladi Kumar is expected to fly down to Cape Town, where the fourth season will be shot in the first week of March.

Since Priyanka Chopra’s hosting of the show didn’t drive up TRPs as expected, Colors (the channel the show airs on) decided to play it safe and go with a proven winner: Akki.

“However”, says an insider, “Ajay Devgn was keen to host KKK4 and was in talks with the channel. Also, given the rivalry between the two actors, it would be like thumbing his nose at his rival.

The channel wanted Ajay because he’s had a good year and is also a popular action hero. But what won Akki the round is his familiarity with the show and the medium. For Ajay, it would’ve been his first TV show.

Ultimately, the channel decided to stick with tried and tested.”

AK also returned to the show because beta Aarav is a big fan. Says a source close to the actor, “His beta wanted his pa to do the thrilling action-based reality show.”

The promos of the show will include high-octane, thrilling and dangerous stunts conceptualised and executed by Akshay himself.

The actor is preparing him and toning up his physique for that currently in his hotel gym in Chandigarh where he’s shooting for Joker.

You must often hear it being said that there is no shortage of work in Bollywood and actors can find enough projects if they are competent. But when it comes to the A-list projects, there is a crunch situation. The top grade actors stay in contention for these projects till someone is finalized. Some days ago we reported about the indecision over the lead actress in ‘Dhoom 3’. Now it’s Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s ‘Ferrari ki Sawari’ that has some problems in casting the leading lady. B-town scorchers Katrina Kaif andKareena Kapoor are in the loop for the role.

The male lead of ‘Ferrari ki Sawari’ is Sharman Joshi. He will be working with Vidhu Vinod Chopra again after the stupendous success of ‘3 Idiots’. The film will be directed by debutant Rajesh Mapuskar. When they began working on the script, Rajesh or Vinod did not have a leading lady in the screenplay. Then Vinod decided to hand over the script to Rajkumar Hirani. Hirani set aside his work for his next movie and took up the script. He added a character as Sharman’s reel wife. The wife appears in flashbacks in black and white print.

Rajesh Mapuskar wants to have Katrina Kaif in the role. He feels that she will look like the heroines of the black and white era. Vidhu Vinod Chopra and Rakjumar Hirani want Kareena to do it. They were much impressed with her after her stellar act in ‘3 Idiots’. Kareena stayed silent when she was asked about her interest in ‘Ferrari ki Sawari’. But she did send out positive vibes by reiterating how much she enjoyed working with the team of Vidhu Vinod Chopra. She also mentioned that she got along famously with Madhavan and Sharman on the sets of ‘3 Idiots’. We feel the role is going to go Kareena’s way. What say?
